Charles Tremayne
Charles Tremayne is Senior Vice President, Granada Factuals USA. He is currently responsible for exploiting all of Granada Media's Factual output in the USA, including channels like Discovery, TLC, A & E, HBO, The History Channel, National Geographic, Court TV and PBS.
Charles started his television career at the BBC in 1977 as a graduate news trainee having gained a BA and MSC at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.
At the BBC he worked in network news and regional centres before joining the Brass Tacks team in Manchester in 1981 to make news documentaries.
He joined Granada in July 1983 to work on World In Action - Britain's longest-running news documentary series. He made 27 programmes including investigations into the Birmingham Pub Bombings, the Economic League, and the case of John Browne MP. The 6 men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings were released as a result of the investigation.
In 1990 he was made Editor of Regional Features and in 1992 Executive Producer of Popular Factual Programmes, including This Morning, In Suspicious Circumstances and Crime Story. He became Editor of World in Action in 1993 and was promoted to Head of Current Affairs and Documentaries in 1994. He was made controller in 1996 and added the title of VP, Granada Factual USA in September 1999.
He lives in New York with his wife Caroline, and two daughters.
