Anthony Utley
After studying Drama at Stratford-upon-Avon, Anthony joined Programme
Planning in BBC Television in 1977, later working in Presentation. In 1980,
he moved into the world of distribution at BBC Enterprises. After 9 years
of licensing programmes around the globe, he defected from the BBC to ITV
and became Head Of Programme Sales at CTE (Central Television Enterprises),
which some years later became Carlton International. He spent a decade in
commercial television, the last year of which he was Head of Acquisition and
Programme Development, before moving back to the BBC two years ago in his
current role in which he oversees and develops the relationship between BBC
Worldwide and BBC Television Production. He is also responsible for BBC
Worldwide's presence and launches at the international programme markets
(MIP, MIPCOM, BBC Showcase, etc), as well as determining the levels of
investment into BBC programming in return for distribution rights.
