WPAThe WPA Film Library Film Library

A leading stock footage archive, The WPA Film Library houses 60,000 hours of film and video ranging from vast historical collections to pop culture images and contemporary stock shots. Due to a skilled research staff, a prompt 24-hour turn-around and competitive rates, WPA is equally popular with television and commercial producers, as well as new media and web developers.

WPA controls exclusive rights to British Pathé in NTSC territories. This collection covers world events and personalities from 1895 to 1970. Furthermore, WPA exclusively represents the archives of public broadcaster WETA, with coverage of Congressional and Senate Hearings from the mid-60s to the present-among them, the Waco, Watergate and JFK assassination trials. One recent acquisition is the Willie Nelson Library including the Porter Wagoner Show, Pop Goes The Country and The Beat. Complementing our popular music holdings are Hullabaloo, Music Scene and Liberace performances. Another favorite is the Color Stock collection from the 1950s, documenting Americana lifestyle images in luminous Technicolor. Smaller collections include Baraka, with gorgeous images shot in 70mm, vintage commercials and a large number of old industrial and training films.

Incorporated in 1987, WPA merged with the MPI Media Group, a home video distributor and producer, in 1992. WPA consistently engages in transfers, restoration and acquisition of archives from a variety of sources, as well as in production of television documentaries. Among these are the special The Murder of JFK: A Revisionist History, which recently won an IDA award and has been broadcast in a number of countries, as well as the 26-part series A Stitch in Time on the history of fashion, a co-production with Taxi Vidéo Brousse and La Cinquième in France.
