ZDFZDF Enterprises is a subsidiary and the commercial arm of ZDF German Television Network - one of Europe's most-respected and most-watched television broadcasters. Headquartered in Mainz, Germany, ZDF Enterprises also operates offices in Munich and New York.

The company acquires and distributes programs for the ZDF Network in German-speaking territories and beyond, via acquisition, sales and co-production. ZDF Enterprises also develops and invests in new product as an independent programming and distribution company.

Acknowledged as a leader in Europe of high quality television series, ZDF Enterprises' interactive catalog features such internationally successful series as Siska, a new detective series, the family drama Our Charlie, and Wetten Dass? (Wanna Bet?), the highest rated television gameshow in Europe. ZDF Enterprises is also internationally- renowned for its highly respected documentary productions - series such as Terra X, Legends of History, When the Century was Young and The Naturzeit Wildlife Series, including Rhino & Co., Seven Secret Worlds, and World of Water. A particular highlight in the catalogue is the continuous and critically-acclaimed output of ZDF's contemporary history unit. Award-winning documentary series such as Hitler: A Profile, Hitler's Henchmen and The Vatican are milestones in German and international television history. One of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken in this field was ZDF's recent six-hour series Holokaust.

Aside from its corporate association with the ZDF network, ZDF Enterprises is increasing its activities as an independent program distributor, actively seeking out co-productions and acquiring international product to distribute to both ZDF and other public and private broadcasters in Germany and other territories. Their many co-production partners include AB Productions, Arts and Entertainment/The History Channel, Discovery Communications, Channel 4, AVRO, S4C, La Cinquième, Film Australia, France Television, Hearst Entertainment, Marina Productions, Mediaset, National Geographic Television, ORF, RAI, SBS, and SVT.

The Munich office of ZDF Enterprises develops large-scale television movies and miniseries in conjunction with independent producers and international broadcasters. The New York office oversees all of ZDF Enterprises' North American programming activities including acquisition, distribution and co-production. It also oversees the company's strategic alliances to partners such as Discovery Communications, Arts & Entertainment Television Networks and Hearst Entertainment.

Among a growing number of ZDF Enterprises' new subsidiaries and joint ventures are:

  • Network Movie, a production company based in Cologne, specializing in contemporary television movies and entertaining television series. The company has quickly gained a reputation as one of the most creative and innovative production houses in Germany. Its most recent activity was the production of a web soap, developed simultaneously for television and the internet.
  • doc.station, a production company based in Hamburg, is active in a complete range of non-fiction programming.
  • ScreenWorks, based in Wiesbaden, Germany, specializes in the development and production of on-air promotion and corporate design concepts for television networks and other media clients.
  • ZDF.newmedia, based in Mainz, has been mandated to market the ZDF brand and ZDF content in internet-related activities. The company cooperated with Network Movie in the production of Germany's first web soap.
