Peter Bergen Peter Bergen, author Holy War Inc. Inside the Secret World of Osama bin Laden and fellow at The New America Foundation

Peter Bergen graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Modern History in 1984. He then worked for ABC News for five years in New York, subsequently moving to CNN where he worked for a decade in a variety of roles as a producer and later as a correspondent. Among the stories he produced at CNN included the first television interview with Osama bin Laden and two documentaries about the Colombian drug cartels.

He left CNN in November 1999 to write a book about bin Laden-Holy War Inc. Inside the Secret World of Osama bin Laden which became a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into more than a dozen languages. He has written about terrorism and militant Islam for The New Republic, The Daily Telegraph of London and Vanity Fair.He has also appeared as a terrorism analyst for CNN, PBS and NPR. The recipient of numerous honors, including the Leonard Silk Journalism Fellowship, Bergen was a Pew-Journalist-in-Residence at Johns Hopkins University in 2001, and is presently a Fellow of the New America Foundation. He lives in Washington DC.
