Bhuvan Lall
Bhuvan Lall is the Executive Director of The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF).
IBF is the largest national organization of Broadcasters of India. A
non-profit organization, IBF identifies and pursues broadcast growth
opportunities and ensures that Foundation members present a strong
collective voice nationally and globally.
In his current role, Bhuvan was invited to draft and provide
recommendations for India s Convergence Legislation - The Communication Bill 2001
designated to be the most significant development in the Indian media business. He
was also an advisor on India s DTH policy and advertising of alcohol
products on TV. Bhuvan was also the Member of the First Indian Entertainment
Industry Delegation to USA in June 2001. Bhuvan was elected as a member of the
International Emmy Awards Council in November 2000.
He is also a Member of the Planning Commission working group on
E-Governance, Convergence, Information & Broadcasting for Government of
India's 10th five year plan (2002 07), Member of the Entertainment Media
Committees of Indian Industry Trade Bodies CII and FICCI and a Member of
the Entertainment Group of the US India Business Council Trade Initiative.
Bhuvan is also the founder of Empire Entertainment Pvt Ltd, an
International Entertainment consulting firm. Bhuvan advised clients in Hollywood,
London and New Delhi on strategies to succeed in the rapidly changing
environment in the International entertainment business. His clients range from
Indian DTH Company Sterlingsat to renowned Music Composer Yanni.
In addition Bhuvan has been a Visiting Professor for Broadcasting at New
Delhi based Indian Institute of Mass Communication, a Judge at the
Annual Avion Awards, In-flight programming festival for International Airlines
in USA, and is the Indian Representative of the world s largest Television
trade body NATPE since 1997.
A popular Speaker and Moderator at seminars worldwide Bhuvan has also
presented and published 23 papers on Indian Entertainment trade at
conferences worldwide. A prolific writer on industry issues Bhuvan has
extensively covered the Indian Entertainment business for London based
weekly trade magazines Screen International & Broadcast since 1993.
Earlier in his career Bhuvan operated his own documentary film
production company "Dream Factory International" with offices in New York Stockholm
and New Delhi for seven years (1988 95). He made 35 Documentary films for
Indian as well as International TV networks.
Educated at Jamia Mass Communication Research Center and University of
Delhi, Bhuvan is a recipient of a Masters Degree in Mass Communication
(Film, TV & Radio Production) and earned a Bachelors Degree in
Sociology. His graduation documentary film "A Ticket To The Future" won the Desmond
Doig Award in 1988. Bhuvan is fluent in Hindi, English and has working
knowledge of French. A resident of New Delhi, Bhuvan is absorbed in
global politics, classic movies, one-day cricket and astrology. He also spends
his time reading espionage novels and photographing the world.
Bhuvan is also the founder director and Treasurer of ECO INDIA an
Environmental Organisation set up promote Environmental causes through
