Andrew Carl Wilk

Andrew Carl Wilk Andrew Carl Wilk is a multi award-winning producer and director. As Executive Vice President of Programming, Production and News, Andrew continues his 25-year career in television production. In this position Wilk assumes responsibility for all National Geographic Channel programming, including new series and specials, acquisitions, co-productions, and news.

As head of programming, Wilk is also executive producer of signature new series for the Channel such as Science Times and The Mummy Road Show, as well as for specials including "National Geographic Channel presents Pearl Harbor: Legacy of Attack" and "National Geographic Channel presents SuperCroc," both of which were simulcast on NBC.

Prior to joining the Channel, Wilk served as Executive Vice President of Programming and Production for National Geographic Television. In this role Wilk was responsible for developing new programming strands for network, cable, first-run syndication, and for the National Geographic International Channels. Wilk oversaw the production of National Geographic Explorer (CNBC), National Geographic Specials (NBC and PBS), and supervised the Natural History, Children’s Programming, and Syndication units.

Wilk’s numerous Emmy Award-winning projects include: Really Wild Animals (CBS), Omni: the New Frontier (ABC), and The Eleventh Hour, the prestigious nightly news program on WNET. Wilk earned an Emmy nomination as Best Director for the critically acclaimed PBS special Going Home: Alvin Ailey Remembered, which was also named the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s 1990 "Program of the Year."

He has produced and/or directed more than 1,000 television episodes, from PBS specials to children’s programming to news and public affairs programs. Wilk has directed such diverse talents as Bill Moyers, Fred Friendly, and Tom Brokaw to The Muppets, Beverly Sills, Peter Ustinov, and Aerosmith. He directed The Colored Museum for Great Performances (PBS) as well as An American Tribute to Vaclav Havel and Meeting with Mandela, also for PBS, in addition to Jim Henson’s Muppets (CBS).

While working in television, Wilk maintained a second career in music since the age of 18. Wilk has conducted numerous musicals and concert performances as Music Director and Conductor of The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
