Claudia Schreiner
Born 1954 in Cologne, Germany. Studies in American History, Political Science and Archeology in Cologne and New York. 1979 M.A. at Columbia University, NYC, and in 1984 Ph.D. at the University of Cologne.
First steps in journalism at ZDF - German Television, news reporting as a free lancer. In the late 80s, just in time for the fall of the wall, working in Berlin as reporter and anchor woman for RIAS (Rundfunk im amerikanischen Sektor); sent over to Washington, D.C. as correspondent for the same station.
After another two years at the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) as assistant to the Director of TV - Programme, resuming work for the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) in Dresden and Leipzig. From 1994 to 2000 as Head of Programme, Family and Society, thereafter until today as Head of Programme, Culture and Science.
This department is responsible for the historical, scientific, cultural and religious programme of the MDR television feeded into the ARD - national public television, the MDR - regional broadcast (covering the middle of Germany) and documentaries, features, magazines and live broadcast of cultural events.
