David Conover

David Conover is a director/ executive producer at Compass Light, Inc., specializing in non-fiction programming, often in the marine environment. Work expanded from film to high def production in 2002. Since then Compass Light has delivered 25 hours of original HD production for broadcast, with 6 more hours due in 2005.

David conceived and successfully pitched the non-narrative observational nature series Sunrise Earth to Discovery HD Theater. Episodes have aired two hours every day since the end of September, 2004. This production was shot in 1080p, and delivered in 1080i with 5.1 surround sound. Also in production for The Science Channel and Discovery HD Theater Channel is the commissioned program Cracking The Ocean Code, a one hour program with geneticist Craig Venter. This show was shot at 720p, with significant underwater footage shot throughout the Eastern Pacific. Over 60 Compass Light award-winning productions include work for Discovery Channel Quest (Quest For Captain Kidd), with Mel Gibson, National Geographic Channel (Sea Stories episodes Night Birth with Sylvia Earle, and Search For The Giant Lobster), and PBS (The Vikings, Fishing For The Future). The company was producing LIVE in HD from the International Space Station for Discovery Communications when the shuttle program was suspended.

David was educated at Bowdoin College and Harvard University, and currently lives in the seaport of Camden, Maine with his wife and two children. He occasionally teaches at the International Film and Television Workshop and maintains a passion for maritime history and marine science.
