SPEED PITCHING: Bill Sykes, VP, Programming, DIY Network - Scripps Networks
Bill Sykes, vice president of programming for DIY, joined the network in May 2001. Sykes is responsible for DIY's program development, production and scheduling.
Prior to DIY, Sykes served as executive producer for special projects at WAGA-TV in Atlanta. In his sixteen years at WAGA, he produced award winning news and local programming specials, documentaries, sports specials and news series. His responsibilities included conceptualizing, planning, coordinating and producing major event coverage, including the 1996 Summer Olympics as well as several World Series and Super Bowls. From 1993-2001, Sykes served on the Board of Governors for the Atlanta Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Prior to Atlanta, Sykes worked for WWL-TV in New Orleans. In addition to broadcast news producing, Sykes' earlier career is filled with experiences in the world of independent film and video production where two of his pieces aired nationally on PBS and his documentary on Florida's explosive growth in the 1970's received special recognition during the San Francisco
and Montreal International Film Festivals. He also spent many years as a cinematographer, videographer and film and tape editor.
Sykes is married with two children. His wife, Melissa, is vice president of programming for Home & Garden Television.
