Karen Gelbart brings to the Food Network Canada a 25-year career in journalism and broadcasting. She has worked as a reporter/editor at United Press International in New York and Montreal and at the CBC in Toronto and Ottawa, advancing through the corporation in a variety of producer and senior producer roles. Prior to Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting, Ms. Gelbart was executive producer in the network television news department at the CBC. In 1997, Ms. Gelbart joined Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting as a production executive in the programming department. Over the last three years, she has managed a score of projects for Life Network and HGTV and has overseen the launching of new programs, generating hundreds of episodes of television in the company's production facility. A passionate "foodie" from a "line of brilliant and distinguished home cooks," Ms. Gelbart worked in her spare time as a restaurant reviewer, first for Toronto Calendar Magazine, and later for a string of community newspapers.
