Charles Brand
Director of Specialist Factual, Tiger Aspect Productions
Programmers Show & Tell: History

In 2002 following his decision to make the move back into production, Charles took on the role of Director of Specialist Factual and US Director of Documentary & Factual Programming. He has been working on a number of high-profile projects in both the UK and US including the major science series, Human Mutants for Channel 4, the 5 x 45min TV Revolution for Bravo US, Fooling Hitler, a one hour special for ITV/Nat Geo, Virtual History, a 90' special for Discovery.

For the BBC, he has exec produced Westminster Wanabees (BBC 3), a third series of the popular BBC 1 series Bailiffs, and is currently making a 3 x 60mins, Brotherhood for BBC2. In addition to this he annually executive produces the Liberal Democrats PEBs for Tiger Aspect.

Charles chaired the International Edinburgh Television Festival in 2002 and is now in the executive committee at the Festival. He also sits on the development board of YCTV and chairs the Channel of the Year Awards.

Prior to this Charles was Managing Director of Tiger Aspect Productions and served on the boards of Tiger Aspect's sister companies, Tiger Aspect Pictures, and Tigress Productions.

In 2000 he was Executive Producer on Tiger Aspect Pictures' Billy Elliot.

Charles has executive produced a wide range of drama, entertainment, comedy and factual programming including: the three BAFTA award-wining drama series Kid in The Corner (Channel 4); Births, Marriages and Deaths (BBC 2); BBC 1 primetime drama Playing the Field; Channel 4 arts series Howard Goodall's Big Bangs; returning documentary series Country House (BBC 2), and Channel 4 entertainment show Streetmate.

In 1993, Charles instigated the merger negotiations for Tiger Television and Aspect Film & Television and became Managing Director of Tiger Aspect Productions. In 1992, Charles set up Tiger Aspect's sister wildlife and adventure production company, Tigress Productions, with Managing Director Jeremy Bradshaw.

From 1988 to 1993, Charles built-up and developed Tiger Television in partnership with Peter Bennett-Jones. Programmes produced or executive produced during this time include Clive James Meets Jane Fonda (BBC), Life of Python and Funny Business the BBC/Showtime documentary series on comedy. Charles also produced/directed Tiger Television's debut programme The Movie Life of George (Granada/ITV).

In 1987, Charles worked as a producer on the Free Nelson Mandela concert for Elephant House Productions BBC/Fox Broadcasting. From 1983 to 1987 he was producer on Sunday Sunday, James Bond - The First 21 years, An Audience with Mel Brooks and The World According to Smith and Jones.

Charles started his television career in 1977 as researcher at London Weekend Television on various youth magazine shows and entertainment documentaries.
