Michael Klein

Anatomy of a Hit Program: Behind the Scenes of What Not to Wear

As an executive producer and interim vice president of production for TLC, Michael Klein is responsible for a broad range of programming for the network. Since joining TLC in 2000, Mr. Klein has overseen over 300 hundred hours of primetime television, including the Emmy(r) nominated series, Human Instinct, While You Were Out, Taking Care of Business and the hit series, What Not To Wear.

Klein has produced a wide range of innovative projects that span several genres, including drama, history, science, current affairs and lifestyle -- programs grounded with a journalistic and accessible approach to storytelling. Major projects include the critically acclaimed Resident Life, Hackers: Outlaws and Angels, Now Who's Boss? and the network's most ambitious mini-series, Ancient Egyptians.

For his production achievements, Klein has been honored with numerous awards and nominations, including two Emmy(r) nominations, several World Medals from the New York Festivals, Freddie Awards and a Prism Commendation.

Born in Western Canada, Klein attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where he studied film and drama. After college, he immediately joined one of Canada's most prolific studios, Nelvana Limited. With the company, Mr. Klein produced the critically acclaimed television series Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys while simultaneously serving as the Executive in Charge of Production for the television series, W.O. Mitchell's Jake and the Kid.

In 1996, Klein formed his own company, Endeavor, devoted to producing high-quality television series and movies of the week. The company also provided consultation services for various companies including BBC, Carlton Television and Stornoway Productions.

In 1999, Klein joined Alliance Atlantis Communications (AAC Fact) where he oversaw several series, including TLC's In The Nick of Time and Daredevils, and the Emmy(r) nominated, Crunch - Sports Collisions and Recoveries.

Klein lives in Washington, D.C.
