A former programming executive for MTV Networks International, Rebecca Batties brings a unique perspective to Discovery Networks International.
In her first six months at Discovery Networks International, Batties developed Discovery Lifestyle Networks, the company’s global business initiative to deploy three lifestyle networks in markets outside the United States. Batties is responsible for naming, branding and setting programming strategy for Discovery Travel & Living, Discovery Home & Health and Discovery Real Time, the portfolio’s initial networks. Discovery Travel & Living debuts October 18 in India and will soon be available in other markets throughout the world.
As senior vice president of creative development and brand management, Batties is the division’s senior executive responsible for the creative direction of the company’s 10 brands marketed outside the United States, led by its flagship Discovery Channel. In addition to overseeing content development and overall programming strategy, Batties determines the networks’ branding and positioning and sets the direction for the division’s marketing effort.
Prior to joining Discovery Networks International, Batties worked in various positions for MTV Networks International. As vice president of international programming, marketing and operations, she oversaw the launch of MTV in Australia, New Zealand and Russia. She also directed the launch of MTV in Italy and Germany, as well as VH1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Batties holds a bachelor’s degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
